The catalyst for numbers this potent is the combination of state-of-the-art automotive technologies including VVT and an active intake manifold, which all work to optimize air and fuel flow into the HEMI engine combustion chambers. • MULTI-DISPLACEMENT SYSTEM (MDS). The power of eight cylinders with the fuel efficiency of four. When cruising at highway speeds, Durango's HEMI V8 engine employs the fuel-saving benefits of MDS. The union allows the HEMI engine to seamlessly transform V8 power into an efficient four-cylinder power plant in a mere 40 milliseconds (0.04 seconds), which bolsters Durango's fuel economy. • AVAILABLE FULL-TIME TWO-SPEED TRANSFER CASE. Simply set the dash-mounted dial on Durango 4x4 models to 4WD for everyday driving. Switch it to 4WD LOCK only on slippery or uneven roads. Use 4WD LOW only in low-speed, low-traction situations, like bringing your boat out of the water. Safety and Security • AIR BAGS. All Durango models include standard advanced multistage driver and front-passenger air bags. These air bags provide nearly instantaneous occupant protection by matching air bag output to crash severity. Standard supplemental side-curtain air bags with roll-sensing technology deploy from the headliner to provide two rows of side-impact protection to outboard occupants. Technology keeps side-curtain air bags deployed longer in the event of a rollover. • ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP). Designed to assist drivers in maintaining control of their vehicle at all times, ESP uses the collective technologies of Brake Assist, All-Speed Traction control, Electronic Roll mitigation (ERM), and Trailer Sway control (TSC) to constantly monitor the driver's input against the vehicle's actual course. If needed, ESP will attempt to correct the vehicle's course by automatically applying the brake and/or reducing engine torque. Meanwhile, the ERM system estimates the potential for wheel lift. If necessary, engine power is reduced and appropriate braking is applied to help stabilize the vehicle. The TSC system detects "sway" unique to trailering and then engages Durango's brakes to slow the vehicle and then increases the brake force to only one side of the vehicle to help counteract the sway from the trailer. • TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING. The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring Warning Lamp helps maintain proper and safe tire pressure by flashing to alert the driver to low-pressure situations. Durango Hybrid, Limited and SLT models feature a Tire Pressure Monitoring Display that provides actual tire pressure information on all four tires. • HYDROFORMED FRAME. Brute strength comes from the core. The front and rear sections of Durango's frame are hydroformed to provide increased stiffness and dimensional control.
