2018 Dodge Journey vs 2018 Ford Explorer near Augusta, GA

In 2018 the Journey and Explorer both undergo some changes. The Ford Explorer makes a few very minor changes to its style and revises the availability of some features. The Dodge Journey, on the other hand, makes a few larger changes by limiting the number of model options. With fewer models to choose from, more features are available per option. The Journey has also made the Black Top package more easily accessed per the high demand, and three rows are now standard on all models.

2018 Dodge Journey Power & Handling

The Journey has two engines. The 2.4-liter inline-4 is available on the SE, SXT, and Crossroad with front-wheel drive. The EPA rated this engine with a fuel economy of 19/25 miles per gallon. The second engine, the 3.6-liter V6 is standard on the GT and an option for the SE, SXT, and Crossroad. This engine comes with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

2018 Ford Explorer Power & Handling

Three engines are available to the Ford Explorer. The 3.5-liter V6 is available to the base and XLT models and has an EPA rated fuel economy of 17/24 miles per gallon. The base, XLT, and Limited can have the 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine and the Sport and Platinum use the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. Engines have the option of front-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive.

2018 Dodge Journey Features & Design

The Journey comes with the option of the SE, SXT, Crossroad, or GT. Some of the included standard safety features are navigation, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, electronic roll mitigation and brake assist, active head restraints, LATCH, and trailer-sway control. Forty additional safety and security features are available to add on as well.

2018 Ford Explorer Features & Design

The Explorer has the choice of base, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum for trims. To have many of the available safety features you need to add on them through a single options package. Some of the features included in this package would be rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and intervention, and blind-spot monitoring. The standard safety features for all models are very limited but can be added on by package or as a standalone.

Conclusions

If you are looking for a safe family vehicle, the Journey is your best bet. Some airbags like the second-row console and second-row outboard inflatable safety belts have to be added to the Explorer.
