2022 Wagoneer vs 2022 Ford Expedition

If you’re in or around the Augusta, Georgia area and seeking your next SUV, you’ve come to the right place! Here at Thomson CDJR, it’s our mission to help each and every driver find a car they can enjoy for years to come. When you’re shopping for a new SUV, it can be difficult to sort through all the options ahead of you and try to figure out which one is really the best one for you. It’s important to take many factors into consideration during your search such as power, capability, space, technology, and more. With all these aspects in mind, things can quickly become overwhelming. To help you in your search, we’re going to be comparing two SUVs side by side so that you can clearly see what they both have to offer. The first option is the 2022 Wagoneer, an all-new three-row SUV. The second option is the 2022 Ford Expedition, which has some updates including a new trim level added last year. Keep reading down below to find out which model is right for you!

2022 Wagoneer Power & Handling

The 2022 Wagoneer is a stunning example of strength and capability, seldom seen in other premium SUVs in its class. Under the hood of the Wagoneer, you’ll find a potent 5.7-liter V8 engine with an output of 392 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque. It also incorporates the eTorque mild-hybrid system for optimal performance and fuel efficiency, which features two motors, and a 48-volt battery pack. The transmission for the Wagoneer is a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic, and rear-wheel drive comes standard. However, both trim levels in the Wagoneer lineup can also opt for 4-wheel drive with one of three legendary 4X4 systems, the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. In terms of capability, the Wagoneer can achieve a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds when properly equipped, and can also ford up to 24 inches of water! It features the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension System which cushions the drive, and also creates up to 10 inches of ground clearance.

2022 Ford Expedition Power & Handling

The 2022 Ford Expedition, like the Wagoneer, also uses one consistent powertrain for its whole trim level lineup. The engine is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6, which supplies the Expedition with 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The exception here is the platinum trim, which is specially calibrated to have a bit of an extra boost, making its output 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Even with that extra power, however, the Expedition can’t quite match up to the towing capacity of the Wagoneer, given the fact that the Expedition’s maximum capacity is 9,300 pounds. This does sound impressive on paper, but when we take into account the Wagoneer’s best-in-class towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, we can see that there’s really no comparison between the two. Also, the Expedition lacks the off-road features offered by the Wagoneer, meaning the driver has fewer options with regards to where their journeys take them.

2022 Wagoneer Features & Design

The Wagoneer has a classic yet totally modern design, with standard Nappa leather interior as standard equipment on all three rows of seats. It can also seat up to eight passengers, and both rear rows can fold flat to increase your storage capacity. The Wagoneer has no shortage of technology, starting with a standard 10.1-inch uconnect touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and even an available Front Passenger Interactive Display, which is a second touchscreen for the passenger’s side. In terms of safety, the Wagoneer comes very well-equipped with features like adaptive cruise control with stop and go, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and active lane management. You can even opt for advanced features like a 360-degree surround-view camera, and drowsy driver detection.

2022 Ford Expedition Features & Design

The Expedition has a design that fits into the Ford family resemblance, and also has three rows of seating on the inside. The exception to this rule is the new base level trim that we mentioned above, called the XL. This new trim is a bit different from the rest of the lineup, in that it only seats five passengers, and also does not include the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity offer on the other trim levels. Moving past the XL, you can find features like leather interior on upper trim levels, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, LED headlights and foglights, and a panoramic sunroof. Like the Wagoneer, the Expedition also offers massaging front seats on certain models for added luxury and comfort. For safety, the upper trim levels add features like adaptive cruise control and rear parking sensors.

Conclusion:

Though it’s clear to see that both of these models have lots of exciting features to offer, we feel that the choice between them is clear. The 2022 Wagoneer outshines the Ford Expedition thanks to its style, strength, and capability!
