Family Friendly Lake Road Trip

There are many lakes that are great to visit in the state of Georgia. Most of which are family friendly. But if you are looking for a mountain lake getaway that’s off the beaten path then Lake Chatuge should be your next lake road trip. While most people think Lake Lanier for the fun waterparks and activities, Lake Chatuge is more for those looking to spend a day or weekend relaxing and taking in light activities if they please.

With its shoreline part of the Nantahala National Forrest, Lake Chatuge. Located in North Georgia in the Blue Ridge Mountains, you won’t find any water parks or laser shows, but you will find quiet coves and uninhabited islands perfect for exploring. A great place to stay is the Ridges Resort and Marina. With a salt water pool, fire pits and s’mores at night, and a nearby marina where you can rent a boat during your stay.

There are several waterfalls nearby making a day time hike to find their beauty worth it. There are several antique and specialty shops located near the Ridges resort as well. And no trip up to the mountains without a tour of the local wineries and vineyards. The resort offers a full-sized salt water pool for those that prefer to swim or relax poolside.

Horseback riding, biking trails, fly fishing, white water rafting are just some of the other activities you can enjoy near Lake Chatuge. You can also go out on a pontoon boat on the lake for a relaxing afternoon.

And for families, enjoy the Georgia Mountain Fair which is not far away from Lake Chatuge. Take in fun carnival style rides, food and cheesy game fun for everyone.
